Riverside Claims Top Prize in Annual Jeopardy
Every year at our annual conference we host Resident Jeopardy! This year's winner: Riverside Regional Medical Center Emergency Medicine residents (l-r) Abigail Cole, DO, Julia Lerner, MD, and Joshua Gibson, DO.
This was Riverside's first triumph in our annual tradition since the Newport News-based EM residency was accredited in 2019 and started in 2020. Shoutouts also to residency programs at EVMS, U.S. Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, UVA, VCU, LewisGale, and Virginia Tech/Carilion for their participation.
Polsinelli
A word from Amanda Polsinelli, MD, program director for the Riverside Emergency Medicine Residency Program: "We are so proud of our residents for showcasing their hard work and training at Riverside in this year’s Jeopardy competition! Dr. Cole has distinguished herself as the resident assistant medical clerkship director. Dr. Lerner is an accomplished medical illustrator and is building a niche in SIM model building. They both have been elected chief for the 2025/26 academic year. Dr. Gibson has hit the ground running in his intern year distinguishing himself both academically and procedurally.”
“When we launched our training program five years ago, we knew Riverside’s health system—featuring a high-acuity, high-volume main site along with community and rural sites—would provide an ideal environment to prepare residents for clinical practice in any setting. We believe we’ve built a special program that fosters lifelong learning, as reflected in half of our graduating residents entering academic fellowships this upcoming year.”
“We are thrilled to be part of such a dynamic group of residencies in Virginia and look forward to continued networking and collaboration through the connections made at VACEP in the years to come."
